Cosmetic Dentistry
Cosmetic What?
The term "cosmetic dentistry" has been around for years.
Basically, it means providing a patient with natural-looking teeth.
When people have a missing tooth replaced or a discolored tooth
corrected, it provides an improved appearance and a new confidence
level.
Here are a few examples:
- Bleaching
- Bonding
- Veneers
- Tooth-colored fillings
- Porcelain crowns and bridges
- Plastic crowns and bridges
I take several courses each year on adhesive or cosmetic dentistry
just to keep up with the rapidly changing materials and techniques.
What an exciting time to be a dentist.

To Bleach Or Not To Bleach?
Previous bleaching techniques were very expensive
and time consuming. Furthermore, the results were very poor. Today,
bleaching is relatively easy, inexpensive, and risk-free. Patients
should always see a dentist for bleaching procedures, proper tray
fit and correct gel concentrations prior to performing the bleaching
in their own home. Products offered on television or drugstores
may cause serious gum problems. Generally, bleaching results can
be obtained in 5-9 days.
